    Los gobiernos conservadores de Londres, primero el de Stanley Baldwin y después el de Joseph Chamberlain, jugaron un papel crucial en la Guerra Civil española, ya que fueron los grandes impulsores del mantenimiento de la política de no intervención, es decir del embargo de armas a ambos contendientes, a pesar de que el acuerdo de no intervención fue desde el primer momento incumplido por Italia, Alemania y Portugal. Fueron también constantes en su influencia sobre el gobierno francés para evitar que éste proporcionara ayuda militar a la República.

    The Conservative governments in London, first that of Stanley Baldwin and then that of Joseph Chamberlain, played a crucial role in the Spanish Civil War, as they were the great promoters of maintaining the policy of non-intervention, that is, the arms embargo on both sides, despite the fact that the agreement of non-intervention was from the outset broken by Italy, Germany and Portugal. They were also constant in their influence on the French government to prevent it from providing military aid to the Republic.
