Resumen de El Servicio Vasco de Información, la Inteligencia estadounidense y Latinoamérica: la operación Caribe (1959-1960)

  Este artículo es un análisis de una operación proyectada porla Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)para miembros del Servicio Vasco de Información (SVI) durante la Guerra Fría. Se centra en la figura de Ramón Sota MacMahon, y se estudia su relación con el jefe de operativos de la CIA en Latinoamérica, Joseph Caldwell King, para el entrenamiento de un grupo paramilitar vasco y la implementación de una misión de contrainsurgencia en el Caribe. Previamente se realiza un recorrido por la trayectoria del SVI, atendiendo a sus principales contactos y labores para las agencias norteamericanas, y se cierra con diferentes conclusiones e interrogantes derivados de los documentos inéditos que aquí se revelan y que invitan a lanzar hipótesis que vinculan a las agencias señaladas con la eclosión de grupos armados en el seno de la resistencia vasca al franquismo.

  This article is an analysis of an operationplanned by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for members of the Basque Intelligence Service (BIS) during the Cold War. It is focused on the figure of Ramón SotaMacMahon and his connection with the head of CIA operations in Latin America, Joseph Caldwell King, for the training of a Basque paramilitary group and the implementation of a counterinsurgency mission in the Caribbean. Firstly, an analysis of the trajectory of the SVI is carried out, according to its main contacts and work for the US Intellligence agencies. And it closes with different conclusions and questions derived from the unpublished documents that are revealed here and that invite to launch hypotheses that link the agencies named with the emergence of armed groups within the Basque antifrancoism
