The present work tries to analyze the origin and development during the seventeenth century of one of the municipal institutions of the Old Regime: the Granary of the town of Los Villares. As is well known, the deposits, created to mitigate the effects of poor harvests and limit shortages, acted at the same time as credit intrusions both for individuals and for the council itself that came to them when it was short of liquidity.
