Introduction: transient receptors sensitive to vanilloid-1 (TRPV-1), belonging to the family of receptors with transient potential, play an important role in the excitation of nociceptive neurons and the consequent generation of pain. What is an innovative alternative in the multimodal management of neuropathic pain.
Objective: the aim of this review was to know the management of the pain mediated by TRPV-1 receptors.
Results: there are endogenous ligands as inflammatory and exogenous mediators such as capsaicin, whose function is to modulate the activity of the TRPV-1 receptors; through intracellular signaling pathways in peripheral sensory neurons, the dorsal ganglion and even at the central level; leading to acute nociceptive effect and a state of neuroplasticity over time.
Conclusions: inhibiting the activity of TRPV1 is an alternative in the management of neuropathic pain. Being interesting and innovative in the population in which other pain inhibition pathways are not possible due to individual factors.
