    El objetivo de este trabajo es mostrar la relevancia que tienen la identidad personal y el autorrespeto en la propuesta moral que subyace a la concepción de la justicia como equidad. Para lograr lo anterior, se presentan y discuten algunas críticas a la concepción de persona moral que Rawls habría ofrecido en A Theory of justice y se defiende que dichas críticas son imprecisas dado que la concepción rawlsiana de persona trasciende una mera descripción formal. Unido a lo anterior, el trabajo conecta la idea de identidad con la de autorrespeto para mostrar que ambas son centrales para la elección de los dos principios de la justicia.

    This paper aims to show the relevance of personal identity and self-respect in the moral proposal thatunderlies the conception of justice as fairness elaborated by John Rawls. To achieve this, the criticisms madeby Gerald Cohen, Charles Taylor and Michael Sandel to the conception of the moral person that Rawls wouldhave offered inA Theory of justiceare presented and discussed. I argue that that these criticisms are wrong,and the Rawls’s conception of person transcends a mere formal understanding. Furthermore, the paperconnects the ideas of identity and self-respect to show that both are central to the choice of the two principlesof justice. Regarding self-respect, the paper shows that -understood as a primary good- it is central to theconstruction of reciprocal relationships between people
