This article tackles the development of Roman magistracies, comparing it with the situation of other Italian peoples. After a brief presentation of the state of the art, the article analyses the introduction of collegiate magistracies in Rome and proposes to link this phenomenon to the creation of the tribune of the plebs. It aims thereby at showing the complexity of concomitant processes on an Italian scale, by comparison with the rest of Italy.
