    L’enigma 70 d’Aldhelm, « Tortella », décrit une certaine forme de pain. On supposait que ce terme désigne une forme séculaire de pain, mais les similarités entre le pain d’Aldhelm et l’eucharistie, conjointement avec des allusions bibliques et des autres détails du texte, suggéraient que Aldhelm entendait que le poème se réfère au pain de la communion, qui donne à l’énigme une dimension symbolique et théologique.

    Aldhelm’s enigma 70, “Tortella,” describes a certain form of bread. It has been assumed that this is a secular bread form, but the similarities between Aldhelm’s bread and the communion host bread, coupled with attention to biblical allusions and other details of the text, suggest that Aldhelm meant the poem to allude to communion bread, giving the riddle a symbolic and theological dimension.
