This study deals with some aspects common to the great migratory movements of all ages from antiquity to the present day. The issues that will be considered include the circumstances that motivate them, the suffering due to the forced abandonment of the homeland, the long journeys, especially by sea, the overcoming of hostilities as well as social, religious and customary barriers that are encountered, and the rejections derived from stereotypes, prejudices and xenophobia. The phenomena resulting from this mobility will also be analysed in order to determine whether interand transcultural relations had a place in primitive Rome and whether some kind of cosmopolitanism had taken place in its origins. The study will be based on texts from Virgil’s Aeneid and from Book I of Livy’s History of Rome, in which the mythical origins of Rome and the epic displacements of those tribes that preceded the foundation of the city are narrated.
