La misión de la nueva universidad privada en Chile. Universidad acreditadas por el Consejo Superior de Educación

    El siguiente artículo presenta algunos de los resultados preliminares de un estudio acerca del contenido de las misiones institucionales declaradas por las universidades privadas de creación más reciente en el país, y contrasta el análisis del discurso con la reflexión que ya existe sobre la misión de la universidad. En ese marco, explora, en primer lugar, el tópico de los alcances de la universidad en términos de la magnitud del aporte que ella espera realizar en su medio, lo que remite finalmente a la pregunta por el lugar que la universidad ocupa en la sociedad. En segundo término, identifica y analiza algunos de los conceptos más utilizados del lenguaje académico para describir la misión universitaria de estas instituciones. En tercer lugar, aborda la temática de las funciones universitarias que las declaraciones de misión suponen y el lenguaje con que se suele estructurar el discurso sobre tales funciones. Finalmente, plantea tres preguntas acerca de las declaraciones de misión, a saber, si éstas son, en general, descriptivas, si son viables y, por último, si son pertinentes.

    This article presents some of the preliminary results of a study on the contents of the institutional missions declared by the most recently established private universities in Chile, establishing a contrast between the discourse and the already existing reflection on the mission of the university. In that framework, it explores, firstly, the topic of the scope of the university in terms of the magnitude of the contribution that the university wishes to make to its setting which thus leads to the question about the place that the university occupies in society. Secondly, it identifies and analyzes some of the most frequently used concepts in academic language to describe the mission of these institutions as universities. Thirdly, it addresses the theme of university functions based on the statement of the University’s mission and the language with which the discourse regarding such functions is usually structured. Finally, it raises three questions about the mission statement, namely, whether these are generally descriptive, whether they are viable and lastly whether they are appropriate.
