Resumen de La influencia de las entradas triunfales de Carlos I y Felipe II en la recepción del mundo clásico del III Duque de Alba: Las Capillas del Jardín de la Abadía

  En este artículo se pretende poner de manifiesto la influencia que las entradas triunfales de los monarcas Carlos I y Felipe II, con su iconografía clásica y su fuerte carácter alegórico y propagandístico, tuvieron en la recepción del mundo clásico de don Fernando Álvarez de Toledo y Pimentel, III duque de Alba, y cómo estos arcos, junto con la exquisita educación recibida, influyeron en la ejecución y decoración de las capillas que el III Duque mandó realizar en su villa de recreo cacereña: La Abadía. Sería en esta villa, verdadero locus amoenus, donde el duque de Alba proyectaría una imagen de poder y erudición que se refleja, entre otros elementos de su bello jardín, en las seis capillas que se abrían en el muro colindante con el río Ambroz al modo de arcos de triunfo romanos. En este artículo se presentan además sus reconstrucciones en 3D realizadas a partir de las fuentes conservadas, fotografías y estudios, resultado, a su vez, de mi trabajo de investigación doctoral.

  The main purpose of this article is to show the influence that the triumphal entries of the monarchs Charles I and Philip II, with their classic iconography and their strong allegorical and propagandistic character, had in the reception of the classical world of the III Duke of Alba, don Fernando Álvarez de Toledo y Pimentel, and how these arches, together with the exquisite education received, influenced the execution and decoration of the chapels that the III Duke ordered to realize in his recreational villa in Caceres: La Abadía. It would be in this village, real locus amoenus, where the Duke of Alba would project an image of power and erudition that is reflected, among other elements of its beautiful garden, in the six chapels that were opened in the wall adjoining the Ambroz River imitating the Roman triumph arcs. In this article we also present their reconstructions in 3D made from the preserved sources, photographs and studies resulting, in turn, from my Phd. research work.
