Mediciones de bienestar subjetivo y objetivo: ¿Complemento o sustituto?

    Las corrientes de pensamiento que estudian y miden el bienestar subjetivo, lo proponen como sustituto del bienestar  objetivo. Las ventajas y desventajas de ambas versiones deben ser valoradas y aprovechadas, lo cual requiere, ante todo,  explorar rigurosamente sus relaciones conceptuales y empíricas. Argumento que en la bibliografía del tema no se ha encontrado fuerte asociación entre bienestar objetivo y subjetivo debido a que no se han utilizado medidas robustas del primero. Pongo a prueba esta afirmación, analizando estadísticamente la relación empírica entre ambos tipos de bienestar en México, utilizando un indicador robusto del bienestar objetivo, el Método de Medición Integrada de la Pobreza, y encuentro una importante asociación empírica entre ellos, lo que debería dar lugar a revalorar la importancia del bienestar objetivo en su percepción subjetiva.

    There are schools of thought that study and measure subjective well-being and propose it as a substitute for objective well-being measurements. We should value and utilize the advantages and disadvantages of both versions of well-being, which requires, first of all, to rigorously explore their conceptual and empirical relationship. I argue that in the literature on the subject no trong association between objective and subjective well-being has been found due to the non-robust objective measures of well-being used. I test statistically this statement, analyzing the empirical relationship between objective and subjective well-being in Mexico, using a robust indicator of objective well-being: The integrated Poverty Measurement Method, and find an important empirical association between both types of well-being, which should lead to reassess the importance of objective well-being in its subjective perception.
