We know that the voyage allowed Thomas More’s idealization to open up the pathsof discovering utopia – (an)Other possible, harmonious and perfect world within theworld -, as a critical vision of the real that it tries to overcome. Accordingly, we alsoknow that the conformation of this mythical project is inevitably compromised by thehistorical and cultural present of its epoch.Exploring the lines of research opened up by this knowledge raises doubts as towhether the voyage in our hypermodern times would still lead us to envisage forms ofconsolidating the utopian project. This is the issue I want address, taking into accountthe contemporary problems linked to the processes of worldwide expansion (moremeaningfully designated in French as mondialisation), globalization and cosmopolitanism, arising from the rapid evolution of History, and how 21st century literature, now more focused on context and committed to repairing the world, approaches them.
