Por primera vez se describe el macho de Eristalotabanus violaceus, a base de 34 especímenes, especie colectada en las localidades de Tiquibuzo (Chillanes) Provincia de Bolívar a 2350 msnm, en la Cordillera Occidental y 2 especímenes colectados en Maylas (Azuay) en la Cordillera Oriental. E. Violaceus se encuentra sobre los 2000 m. de altitud, ocupando matorrales, bosques y páramos andinos, así como plantaciones de pino. Se ilustran las estructuras del macho comparando con la hembra, también se adjunta cuadro de localidades de colecta y otras especies que comparten el hábitat en los Andes del Ecuador
For the first time describes the male Eristalotabanus violaceus, based on 34 specimens, species collected in the villages of Tiquibuzo (Chillanes) Bolivar Province at 2350 masl, in the Cordillera Occidental and two specimens collected in Maylas (Azuay) in the Cordillera Oriental. E. violaceus is above 2000m. altitude. Here it occupes scrublands, forest and Andean highlands, as well as pine plantations. Illustrates the structures of the male compared to the female, also including chart of collecting localities and other species that share the habitat in the Andes of Ecuador.
