The ‘Godello’ variety is grown mainly in the Northwest of Spain and in Portugal. In 2002, ITACYL began a survey in old vineyards that allowed a pre–selection of ‘Godello’ vines to start a selection process with 3 clones in a collection located in Valladolid, whose study has been carried out during the period 2011–2016.
The CL–35 clone has been more productive. The CL–68 clone has been more vigorous than the CL–46 and this one more than the CL–35. The quality of the grape has shown some differences between clones. Thus, clone CL–46 has shown slightly higher levels of sugars and pH and lower levels of total acidity and tartaric acid. On the contrary, CL–35, the most productive, has shown a higher level of total acidity and tartaric acid. To sum up, there is the possibility of choosing ‘Godello’ clones in accordance with the specific productive and qualitative objectives of the plantation of this variety.
