Basilio Hernández, el taxista más viejo de La Asunción, entró a la sastrería y saludó a su dueño, y amigo de toda la vida, Guillermo Narváez. Era uno de los contertulios habituales en las tardes, al final de la jornada, cuando en el pequeño local del Bulevar 5 de Julio, se reunía con compañeros y conocidos de siempre a tomar café y comentar las nuevas del día. Tenía fama de memorioso y parte de la tertulia transcurría en torno a eventos pasados. Esa tarde Basilio decidió nuevamente hacer alarde de su memoria prodigiosa y escogió hablar de un hecho insólito, por lo lejano en el tiempo. -Guillermo, a que tú no eres capaz de acordarte qué canción sonaba en la radio cuando regresábamos de llevar a tu esposa al aeropuerto para un viaje a Caracas en 1980-. El sastre, enredado en ese momento con la manga de un traje, le respondió con tono de fastidio: -Eso fue hace 35 años, cómo me voy a acordar. Tú tampoco puedes. Ya te inventarás un cuento-.

Basilio Hernández, the oldest taxi driver in La Asunción, entered the tailor's shop and greeted his owner, and lifelong friend, Guillermo Narváez. He was one of the regulars in the afternoons, at the end of the day, when in the small shop on Boulevard 5 de Julio, he would meet up with colleagues and acquaintances to drink coffee and comment on the news of the day. He had a reputation for being memorable and part of the gathering was spent on past events. That afternoon Basilio decided to show off his prodigious memory again and chose to speak about an unusual event, because of the distance in time. -Guillermo, I bet you can't remember what song was playing on the radio when we returned from taking your wife to the airport for a trip to Caracas in 1980. The tailor, tangled up in the sleeve of a suit at the time, responded with a tone of annoyance: "That was 35 years ago, how can I remember. You can't either. You'll make up a story.
