  El artículo presenta, en primer lugar, el estado de la cuestión de las hipótesis sobre el debatido título del Libro de los gatos de la forma más detallada posible, agrupándolas en diferentes categorías: título arbitrario e hipótesis aislada, hipótesis figurativa, hipótesis de una derivación latina, un error paleográfico, las lenguas semíticas, una derivación india y, por último, la hipótesis que, en nuestra opinión y por el momento, parece ser la más probable. En la segunda parte, se centra en las ampliaciones de las moralizaciones finales de la colección, presentes en numerosos exempla a lo largo del texto y consideradas por la mayoría de los críticos como originales del traductor español, ilustrando cómo algunas moralizaciones finales, por el contrario, están abreviadas respecto a su fuente latina, en particular respecto al ms. Corpus Christi 441 de Cambridge, considerado el más cercano en orden y contenido al Libro de los gatos. De este modo, el análisis espera contribuir a la hipótesis de que el texto español que poseemos (ms. 1182 de la "Biblioteca Nacional" de Madrid) no es, en realidad, más que una copia de una traducción derivada de un manuscrito más antiguo de Odo de Cheriton, en el que ya podían estar presentes estas variantes.

  The article first presents the state of the art regarding the hypotheses on the debated title of the Libro de los gatos in as much detail as possible, grouping them into different categories: arbitrary title and isolated hypothesis, figurative hypothesis, hypothesis of a Latin derivation, of a palaeographical error, of Semitic languages, of an Indian derivation and, finally, hypothesis that, in our opinion and at the moment, seems to be the most likely. In the second part, it concentrates on the expansions of the final moralizations of the collection, present in numerous exempla throughout the text and considered by most critics to be originals of the Spanish translator, illustrating how some final moralizations, on the contrary, are abbreviated with respect to his Latin source, in particular with respect to the ms. Corpus Christi 441 of Cambridge, considered the closest in order and content to the Libro de los gatos. In this way, the analysis hopes to contribute to the hypothesis that the Spanish text we possess (ms. 1182 of the "Biblioteca Nacional" in Madrid) is in fact only a copy of a translation derived from an older manuscript of Odo of Cheriton, in which these variants may already have been present.
