Resumen de Aproximación a la Orden de los Mercedarios y su martirio voluntario en el norte de África en la Baja Edad Media

El tema que voy a tratar en este artículo pretende explicar uno de los hechos más comunes de la sociedad cristiana medieval: el cautiverioy, cómo la Iglesia, creó unas órdenes religiosas específicas para poner fin alsufrimiento que vivían los +eles cristianos que habían tenido la mala fortuna de caer en el mismo. Nació así la Orden de la Merced que, con su cuartovoto, se dedicó a la liberación de los cautivos tanto en la Península Ibéricacomo en el Norte de África. De todas sus liberaciones, destaca su intensalabor de redención en el Norte de África durante la Baja Edad Media, unterritorio hostil y peligroso, que no hizo más que intensificar el uso de estecuarto voto en pro de la salvación de los cautivos que se encontraban enmanos del Islam.

The topic that I am going to deal with in this brief article tries toexplain one of the most common facts in the peninsular Christian society:the captivity and how the Church created specific religious orders to put anend to the suffering of those faithful Christians who had the bad luck to fallinto it.The Order of Mercy was born with a specific fourth vow, in order tofree the captives, both in the Iberian Peninsula and in North Africa. Amongall its liberations, it highlights its intense work of redemption in North Africaduring the Late Middle Ages, a hostile and dangerous territory, which didnothing but intensify the use of this fourth vow in favor of the salvation ofthe captives that were in the Islam ́s hands.
