  According to the UN Charter, the World Court of Justice is the main judicial organ of the UN Although the Court is an independent judicial institution, it is nevertheless part of the Organization. It therefore entertains a complex relationship with the General Assembly and the Security Council, as regards its composition, its administrative operation, the mode of referral of cases, or the implementation of its rulings. The recent multiplication of international courts within and outside the UN raises questions about the role the World Court could play in this new context in order to guarantee the unity and respect of international law.

  Selon la Charte des Nations unies, la Cour internationale de justice est l’organe judiciaire principal de l’ONU. Ainsi, la Cour, institution judiciaire indépendante, n’en est pas moins partie intégrante des Nations unies. Elle a de ce fait des relations complexes avec l’Assemblée générale et le Conseil de sécurité, que l’on considère sa composition, son fonctionnement administratif, sa saisine ou les conditions d’exécution de ses décisions. La multiplication récente des juridictions internationales tant au sein qu’à l’extérieur de l’ONU amène en outre à s’interroger sur le rôle que la Cour pourrait jouer dans ce contexte nouveau pour assurer le respect et l’unité du droit international.
