Resumen de Celebrem el Premi Nobel de Química 2020. Les eines CRISPR-Cas d’edició genètica

A principis del mes d’octubre passat, la Reial Acadèmia Sueca de les Ciències va decidir atorgar el Premi Nobel de Química 2020 a dues investigadores: la francesa Emmanuelle Charpentier i la nord-americana Jennifer Doudna, per haver desenvolupat un mètode d’edició genètica. No va caldre res més. Tota la comunitat científica va saber que es premiaven les eines CRISPR-Cas, derivades de sistemes de procariotes que, amb el mateix nom, havien estat descrits per Francis Mojica, un investigador de la Universitat d’Alacant que també fou qui proposà aquest acrònim que ja ha fet fortuna: CRISPR.

In early October of last year, the Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry to two scientists, the French researcher Emmanuelle Charpentier and the American biochemist Jennifer Doudna, for the development of a genome editing method. The whole scientific community immediately understood that the prize was being granted for the CRISPR-Cas tools, derived from prokaryotic systems which, under the same name, had been described by a researcher at the University of Alicante, Francis Mojica, who also coined the now famous acronym CRISPR.
