Todos los años, en la tercera semana de mayo, se celebra en Escuinapa, Sinaloa, la fiesta del mar de Las Cabras, y aunque ningún escuinapense la consideraría una fiesta religiosa, es difícil distinguir en ella, según lo dicho por Jünger, entre acercamiento humano y cultual, entre fiesta profana y ceremonia sagrada. A partir de los datos arqueológicos, las fuentes etnohistóricas y la analogía etnográfica se establece tanto la antigüedad como el origen religioso de esta fiesta. Si bien en la actualidad es enteramente civil, su estructura y, sobre todo, el profundo significado que tiene para la mayoría de los escuinapenses, le confieren todavía un carácter sagrado en el que se alcanza a distinguir el antiguo culto a Narama, el dios de la sal, el chile y el mezcal.

Every year, in the third week of May, the festival of the sea of Las Cabras is celebrated in Escuinapa, Sinaloa, and although no one from Escuinapa would consider it a religious festival, it is difficult to distinguish in it, according to what Jünger said, between human and cult approach, between secular festival and sacred ceremony. From the archaeological data, the ethnohistorical sources and the ethnographic analogy, both the age and the religious origin of this festival are established. Although it is currently entirely civil, its structure and, above all, the deep meaning it has for the majority of the people from Escuinapa, still give it a sacred character in which it is possible to perceive the ancient cult of Narama, the god of salt, chili and mezcal.
