Resumen de La religión en los "Discursos de la primera década de Tito Livio" de Nicolás Maquiavelo

Este trabajo busca reconstruir el modo en que Maquiavelo tematiza la cuestión de la religión con un doble fin: 1. observar qué rol cumple la religión y qué relación guarda con la política; 2. identificar los sentidos de religión presentes en su obra con el propósito de desmontar la suposición de que ella constituye un simple instrumento del que los grandes disponen para dominar sobre un pueblo pasivo. Para realizar esto, dividiremos nuestra exposición en dos partes. La primera reconstruye el análisis que Maquiavelo dedica a la religión romana entre los capítulos 11 a 15 de los Discursos sobre la primera década de Tito Livio. La segunda restituye la caracterización del cristianismo y su comparación con la religión pagana romana. Allí constataremos el tipo de efectos que una y otra religión promueven en el pueblo, que deriva en dos tipos diversos de establecimiento del vínculo político entre grandes y pueblo.

This paper seeks to reconstruct the way in which Machiavelli thematizes the question of religion with a double aim: 1. to observe what role religion plays and what relationship it has with politics; 2. to identify the meanings of religion present in his work in order to dismantle the assumption that it is merely an instrument that the great have at their disposal to dominate over a passive people. To do this, we will divide our exposition into two parts. The first reconstructs Machiavelli's analysis of Roman religion from chapters 11 to 15 of the Discourse on the First Decade of Titus Livy. The second part restores the characterization of Christianity and its comparison with Roman pagan religion. There we will note the type of effects that one religion and the other promote in the people, which leads to two different types of establishment of the political link between the great and the people.
