Resumen de "Les ambassadeurs muets". Usage, exil et tournée de tableaux français aux Amériques (1939-1947)

Victor Claass

  • In this study, the author retraces the route of works of art sent by the French State to Buenos Aires in 1939 in the framework of an exhibition of a diplomatic character supervised by the art historian and curator of the Musée du Louvre, René Huyghe (1906-1997). Lent by private and public collections, these objects remained blocked transatlantic when the Second World War broke out. They were presented in several major cities in Latin American and in the United States. Based on the exploration of unpublished archives concerning the organization of this traveling exhibition by the national museums and the services of cultural propaganda of the Third Republic, this article makes it possible to evoke the singular destiny of these works, from symbolic as well as material points of view.
