The article tackles with the strict relationship among open science, citizen science and public engagement. Initially, the author gives an overview on the concept of citizen science and how it applies to the different disciplines, from hard to soft studies and projects. Later the author discusses how citizen science projects addresses open science to the public engagement by fostering public involvement and participation in the science construction. In conclusion the author discusses the rationale which explains why both public and academic libraries should be increasingly involved in citizen science projects and trends.
