En los inicios de su carrera artística, el músico obtuvo un notable reconocimiento en su faceta de cantante y actor participando en algunas zarzuelas y representaciones teatrales. En abril de 1886 fundó en la Fábrica Nacional de Trubia la agrupación coral Orfeón Obrero de Trubia, una de las primeras masas corales surgidas en Asturias e integrada por activos de la entidad fabril. Bajo su batuta, la formación alcanzó un considerable nivel, obteniendo meritorios puestos en varios concursos de ámbito regional y participando en 1890 en un destacado certamen nacional de orfeones celebrado en Santander.
Recientemente, en el año 2021 se cumplió el ciento veinte aniversario del fallecimiento del director, de quien se da la circunstancia que es tío-tatarabuelo de la actual reina de España, Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano. Expuestos sus méritos musicales, Antonio Ortiz puede considerarse una figura relevante en los inicios del orfeonismo asturiano.

founder and conductor of the Trubia Workers Choir (1886 - c. 1900). At the beginning of his artistic career, the musician obtained great recognition in his role as singer and actor, participating in some zarzuelas and theatrical performances. In April 1886 he founded the Trubia Workers Choir at the National Factory of Trubia, one of the first choral masses emerged in Asturias and made up of workers of the manufacturing entity. Under his direction, the group reached a considerable level, obtaining meritorious positions in various regional competitions and participating in 1890 in an outstanding national choir contest held in Santander.
Last year 2021 was the 120th anniversary of the death of the conductor, who is the uncle-great-great-grandfather of the current queen of Spain, Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano. Exposed the musical merits of him, Antonio Ortiz can be considered a relevant figure in the beginnings of Asturian orpheonism.
