Terapia ocupacional en amputados de miembro superior.

    Aunque no existen registros específicos del número de afectados de amputación de miembro superior, sí que la evidencia, nos indica que debemos tener en cuenta que las amputaciones de miembro superior influyen en todos los aspectos de la persona afectada ocasionando graves repercusiones en el aspecto funcional, psicológico, sociolaboral y estético; principalmente si ocurre en edades tempranas o medias de la vida, como es el caso de las amputaciones traumáticas. Por lo tanto, será necesario los profesionales específicos para tratar estas áreas, entre ellos los terapeutas ocupacionales. OBJETIVO: Conocer los métodos de tratamiento realizados desde terapia ocupacional en pacientes que han sufrido amputaciones de miembro superior, conocer las fases y recursos utilizados para mejorar su autonomía y aumentar su calidad de vida. METODOLOGÍA: Se ha realizado una búsqueda bibliográfica en las bases de datos PubMed, Dialnet y Uptodate, así como en Google Académico, utilizando terapia ocupacional y amputación miembro superior, prótesis, terapia espejo, también se han consultado guías prácticas y asociaciones como AUPA (Asociación de Usuarios de Prótesis) y ANDADE (Asociación Nacional de AMPUTADOS de España). RESULTADOS: Conocer la situación de los amputados y porcentajes de tipo de amputación, así como el abordaje desde la terapia ocupacional en las diferentes etapas del tratamiento como, fase inicial preprótesica, protésica y readaptación. CONCLUSIONES Desde el servicio de Terapia Ocupacional se realizan los tratamientos necesarios para cubrir áreas del desempeño de la persona amputada de miembro superior que no se pueden tratar desde las áreas de conocimiento de otros profesionales, ya que desde terapia ocupacional se especializa en dotar a la persona del mayor grado de independencia y de autonomía personal, mejorando su calidad de vida en los aspectos tanto físicos, sociales, laborales y emocionales. Por lo tanto, será una figura imprescindible para tratar estos pacientes junto a un equipo multidisciplinar.

    Although there are no specific records of the number of people affected by upper limb amputation, the evidence does indicate that we must take into account that upper limb amputations influence all aspects of the affected person, causing serious repercussions in the functional aspect, psychological, socio-labor and aesthetic; mainly if it occurs in early or middle ages of life, as is the case of traumatic amputations. Therefore, specific professionals will be necessary to treat these areas, including occupational therapists. OBJECTIVE: To know the treatment methods carried out from Occupational Therapy in patients who have suffered upper limb amputations, to know the phases and resources used to improve their autonomy and increase their quality of life. METHODOLOGY: A bibliographic search has been carried out in the PubMed, Dialnet and Uptodate databases, as well as in Google Scholar, using occupational therapy and upper limb amputation, prosthesis, mirror therapy, practical guides and associations such as AUPA (Asociación of Prosthesis Users) and ANDADE (National Association of AMPUTEES of Spain). RESULTS: Know the situation of the amputees and percentages of the type of amputation, as well as the approach from Occupational Therapy in the different stages of treatment, such as the initial pre-prosthetic, prosthetic and rehabilitation phase. CONCLUSIONS From the Occupational Therapy service, the necessary treatments are carried out to cover areas of performance of the upper limb amputee that cannot be treated from the areas of knowledge of other professionals, since Occupational Therapy specializes in equipping the person with of the highest degree of independence and personal autonomy, improving their quality of life in physical, social, work and emotional aspects. Therefore, he will be an essential figure to treat these patients together with a multidisciplinary team.
