This essay aims to highlight the political aspect of the ethical project of education of sensibility and assure it as a project of political education. It is structured in four steps, the last one being a synthesis of the previous ones. The first step is to describe education in behavioral terms, meaning revisit some of the main proposals of behavior analysts for education and what can be said about its main characteristics. The second step is to describe the project education of sensibility as proposed by José Antonio Damasio Abib. Abib examined the core tension of our sensibilities as organisms and societies, being the difficulty of balance between pleasure and survival and the potentially lethal consequences of this for cultures and humanity. To manage it, Abib proposes, through sentimental education, ethical education, education for freedom and creativity, the strengthening of a cultural sensibility that can help us deal with short term pleasure and long-term health and survival, not only for the individual but for society as a whole. The third step is to clarify the definitions of the term politics based on the work of political scientist Chantal Mouffe and of the historian Joan Scott: both highlight the conflictual dimensions of life in society and also how we can think of politics as the arrangement of practices and institutions that, in Scott’s words, can negotiate the impossible, which means deal with inequalities without neglecting people’s differences. Some data on the Brazilian realities are presented to illustrate the conflictual decision-making-processes as core to an understanding of politics. The last step is a synthesis of the discussion in which the education of the sensibility is taken as a project of political education when it assumes the importance of making us sensitive not only to the delayed consequences of our behavior but also to the structural contingencies that produce inequalities and disparities of political power and resources.
O objetivo deste trabalho é destacar o sentido político do projeto ético de educação da sensibilidade e afirmá-lo como um projeto de educação política. O primeiro passo consiste no esclarecimento do sentido do termo educação de um ponto de vista comportamentalista, base para pensar qualquer projeto educacional. O segundo passo consiste no esclarecimento do projeto ético de educação da sensibilidade, conforme apresentado por José Antônio Damásio Abib. O terceiro passo consiste no esclarecimento do sentido do termo política, emprestado dos trabalhos da cientista política Chantal Mouffe e da historiadora Joan Scott, que a seu modo ressaltam o caráter antagônico, conflitivo e de negociação da política. Por fim, uma síntese destaca a dimensão política de um projeto ético como esse e, portanto, propõe pensar e educação da sensibilidade como educação política que guie a prática de educadoras e analistas do comportamento.
