    The assassination of King Alexander of Yugoslavia and French foreign minister Louis Barthou in Marseille on 9 October 1934 played a key role in the bilateral relationship between these two countries during the interwar period, but does not account for all of the ways that terrorism shaped this relationship. The years preceding the attack indeed witnessed the development of police and intelligence cooperation between France and Yugoslavia against terrorist activities by the Ustasa and the IMRO. This cooperation was put to the test during the international investigation following the death of Alexander of Yugoslavia and ultimately fell apart as Yugoslavia aligned itself more closely with Nazi Germany.

    L’attentat de Marseille du 9 octobre 1934, qui voit la mort du roi Alexandre de Yougoslavie et du ministre français des Affaires étrangères Louis Barthou, occupe une place centrale dans la relation entre la France et la Yougoslavie durant l’entre-deux-guerres, mais n’épuise pas la manière dont le terrorisme l’a façonnée. Les années qui précèdent l’attentat connaissent en effet le développement d’une coopération antiterroriste en matière policière et de renseignement entre les deux États contre les menaces représentées par l’ORIM et l’Oustacha. Cette coopération est mise à l’épreuve lors de l’enquête consécutive à l’attentat de Marseille et se délite alors que la Yougoslavie se rapproche de l’Allemagne nazie.
