Resumen de Comercio de Chile con América Latina entre 1844 y 1870: Un acercamiento a partir de la Estadística Comercial

El presente trabajo pretende dimensionar la importancia para Chile de sus vínculos comerciales con América Latina en el periodo comprendido entre 1844 y 1870. A tal fin, se sistematiza la información disponible en la Estadística Comercial y se evalúa la importancia de los contactos comerciales regionales en relación al total del comercio exterior del país , el contenido de los intercambios y la nacionalidad declarada de las embarcaciones que lo llevaban a cabo. Se concluye que aunque marginales, estos lazos comerciales fueron significativos para Chile ya que fueron complementarios con los intercambios que tenía con sus socios comerciales principales, Inglaterra, Francia y los Estados Unidos.

This article aims to measure the importance for Chile of its maritime trade ties with Latin America between 1844 and 1870. Therefore, the information available in the Trade Statistics is systematized and the importance of regional trade contacts is evaluated in relation to the total foreign trade of the country, the content of the exchanges and the declared nationality of the vessels that carried it out. It is concluded that although marginal, these commercial ties were significant for Chile because they were complementary to the exchanges that the country had with its main commercial partners, England, France and the United States.
