Resumen de Instrucciones y viajes de investigación: Prácticas de la administración

Este artículo quiere integrar a las instrucciones de viaje en la historia de la ciencia y de la burocracia durante la Edad Moderna a trevés del estudio de las relaciones entre las instrucciones de viajes, el viaje concreto y la producción de conocimiento científico durante el siglo XVIII. La premisa de la cual parte este trabajo sostiene que las instrucciones de viaje constituyen un género multiforme que tuvo un estrecho vínculo con la configuración de los diferentes campos del saber más allá de la Historia natural. A través del estudio de un rico corpus de instrucciones de viaje éste se pregunta por los rasgos de las instrucciones y cómo éstos gravitaron sobre la producción de conocimiento y la administración política durante el siglo XVIII. La respuesta sostiene que nuestra comprensión acerca de las relaciones entre las instrucciones de viaje y la administración política está determinada por el contexto histórico e institucional en el cual dichos documentos fueron producidos.

This paper seeks to integrate travel instructions into the history of science and bureaucracy during the Early Modern period by focusing on the relationships between travel instructions, real travel and scientific knowledge production in the 18th-century. The premise of the paper is that travel instructions is a multiform genre which had close connections with the making of scientific field beyond Natural history. In exploring a rich corpus of travel instructions, it asks, What were the general features of travel instructions and how does these operate in knowledege production and political administration during the 18th-century? The answer remains that our comprehension of the relationship between travel instructions and political administration is determined by the historical and institutional context in which these documents were produced.
