Resumen de Primer registro de bicefalia en la culebrilla ciega (Blanus sp. Vandelli 1797)

  Documentamos el hallazgo de una culebrilla ciega bicéfala en el casco histórico de Córdoba Su pequeño tamaño impidió identificar la especie del individuo. A pesar de que su locomoción se veía dificultada por las dos cabezas, el animal, probablemente, era capaz de ingerir alimento, como sugiere la deposición de heces. Discutimos la frecuencia y los mecanismos de aparición de este fenómeno, el cual afecta a muy pocos individuos, pero ha sido observado en un amplio conjunto de reptiles y otros animales.

  We report the finding of a double-headed worm lizard in the historic neighborhood of Cordoba. Its small size made it impossible to identify the individual to species level.

  Although its locomotion was hampered by its two heads, the animal was probably capable of ingesting food, as suggested by the stools. We discuss the frequency and the mechanisms that lead to this phenomenon, which affects very few individuals, but has been observed in a wide range of reptiles and other animals.
