The Maison Autrique, Victor Horta’s first building of note, is of major importance in the architectural heritage of Brussels. First of all, because this house marks an essential stage in the development of the Belgian architect, and secondly, because it has been exemplary renovated and which helps one to have a better understanding of the birth of Art nouveau. The scenography designed by Schuiten and Peeters makes this residence into – as it were – a “house of houses“, at one and the same time a homage to the private architecture of Brussels and a gateway into the world of the imagination. Interpreted from the cellar to the attic, the Maison Autrique highlights the historical and aesthetic interest of the houses of Brussels, revealing their charm and mystery.

Premier édifice marquant de Victor Horta, la Maison Autrique est un élément majeur du patrimoine architectural bruxellois. D’abord parce qu’elle représente une étape essentielle dans l’évolution du grand architecte belge. Ensuite parce que le bâtiment a fait l’objet d’une restauration exemplaire, aidant à mieux comprendre la naissance de l’Art nouveau. La scénographie conçue par Schuiten et Peeters fait de cette demeure une sorte de “maison des maisons”, hommage à l’architecture privée bruxelloise en même temps que porte vers l’imaginaire. Mise en scène de la cave au grenier, la Maison Autrique souligne l’intérêt historique et esthétique des maisons bruxelloises, les révélant dans leur séduction et dans leur mystère.
