O Formigueiro: un castillo medieval en la tierra de Búbal (siglos XIV-XV)

    En este artículo se estudiará la historia del castillo de Formigueiro, desde su levantamiento por parte del monasterio de Oseira hasta el paso de la propiedad a la casa Sarmiento, y su posterior derribo en el contexto de las Guerras Irmandiñas, siendo reconstruido de nuevo entre 1477-1478, para acabar por ser derrocado definitivamente en el marco de la política antinobiliaria de los Reyes Católicos. Así mismo, se dará prueba de la diferenciación entre esta fortaleza y el vecino castillo de Alba de Búbal, intentando subsanar un error que se ha perpetuado en los trabajos académicos. Todo ello se realizará en base a un riguroso estudio de las fuentes documentales de manera directa, reflejando las más relevantes para el objetivo del presente trabajo.

          This article will examine the history of Formigueiro’s Castle from its rising -carried out by the monastery of Oseira- to the transfer of the property to the Sarmiento lineage and its subsequent demolition in the context of the Irmandiños’ Wars. The Castle was rebuilt between the years 1477 and 1478 and ended up being definitively overthrown in the context of an anti-nobility policy of the Catholic Monarchs. Besides, this paper will bring light to the differentiation between this fortress and the neighbouring one of Alba de Búbal, trying to amend a mistake that has been perpetuated in previous academic research. All this work has been carried out from a rigorous direct study of the documentary sources, shaping the most relevant points according to the objectives of this project.
