El análisis genealógico del pensamiento hemisférico es dividido en dos periodos o momentos históricos. El primero entre 1850 y 1890 y el segundo entre 1890 y 1940. En el primero de ellos, la autora analiza el pensamiento político de Frederick Douglass y Domingo F. Sarmiento. En el segundo el de W. E. B. Du Bois y de José Vasconcelos. Esta división no es arbitraria. Describen dos circunstancias históricas en las que predominaron ideas científicas sobre la raza; racismo científico definidas como “teorías raciales respaldadas y acreditadas por las ciencias y que posicionaron una innata y permanente inferioridad de los no blancos”

The genealogical analysis of hemispheric thought is divided into two historical periods or moments. The first between 1850 and 1890 and the second between 1890 and 1940. In the first, the author analyzes the political thought of Frederick Douglass and Domingo F. Sarmiento. In the second, that of W. E. B. Du Bois and José Vasconcelos. This division is not arbitrary. They describe two historical circumstances in which scientific ideas about race predominated; scientific racism defined as "racial theories supported and accredited by the sciences and which positioned an innate and permanent inferiority of non-whites."
