Resumen de Los últimos días del obrero Manuel Rojas Llantén y el ciclo de protestas del verano de 1957 en Santiago de Chile

  A través de la revisión de fuentes oficiales y prensa periódica, se analiza la actividad del dirigente obrero, también del movimiento de pobladores y militante socialista, Manuel Rojas Llantén en sus últimas semanas de vida, antes de fallecer tras una protesta en Santiago de Chile, el 8 de febrero de 1957. Se estudia, poniendo al centro la figura de Rojas Llantén, la organización y agitación que gestó el ciclo de protestas que comenzó en enero de 1957 y que encontró su clímax en la revuelta de abril del mismo año. Igualmente, se constatan las dinámicas de articulación social diversas y densas que compusieron dicho movimiento desde sus inicios y hasta el final del verano. Por último, se analiza el rol de la violencia represiva mortal en la radicalización de la subjetividad de la protesta rumbo a la revuelta. Se propone que la particular figura de Rojas Llantén, así como su activismo en las luchas del verano de 1957, ayudan a comprender las formas en que se construye un ciclo de protestas, a los personajes que protagonizan dicha construcción y las dinámicas en que tal proceso deviene en una revuelta.

  Through the review of official sources and periodical press, we analyze the activity of Manuel Rojas Llantén, a workers’ leader, also a member of the settlers’ movement and a socialist militant, during the last weeks of his life, before his death after a protest in Santiago de Chile, on February 8, 1957. The organization and agitation that gave rise to the cycle of protests that began in January 1957 and reached its climax in the revolt of April of the same year are studied, focusing on the figure of Rojas Llantén. It also shows the diverse and dense dynamics of social articulation that made up this movement from its beginnings until the end of the summer. Finally, we analyze the role of deadly repressive violence in the radicalization of protest subjectivity, turning them into revolts. We propose that Rojas Llantén’s figure and activism in the struggles of the summer of 1957 help to understand how a cycle of protests is constructed. These characters are the protagonists of this construction, the dynamics in which this process becomes a revolt.revolt, repression, social movement.
