El desarrollo de las comunidades tradicionales en el archipiélago canario ha pasado por un intenso aprovechamiento de los recursos del territorio en el que se asientan, conformando una parte importante de su identidad cultural.
En este contexto, destacan los barrancos como espacios dinámicos que ofrecían una gran variedad de recursos para el desarrollo de actividades socioeconómicas. Actualmente, estos se presentan como importantes paisajes culturales que han sido devaluados y olvidados, pero que forman parte del rico patrimonio cultural canario, tanto material como inmaterial.
The development of the traditional communities in Canary Island have passed by an intense process of exploitation of territorial resources which are part of its cultural identity. In this context stand the ravines out like dynamic spaces that offer a wide variety of resources to the development of socio-economic activities. Actually, these are displayed as important cultural landscapes which have been undervalued and forgotten but they continue to be part of the Canary Cultural Heritage, both tangible and intangible.
