    Ante la falta de evidencias directas que acreditan el origen de algunas colecciones en los museos es habitual utilizar el método deductivo para plantear hipótesis que permitan identificar o entender los contextos en que se produjeron. En algunos casos, como en la interpretación que se hizo sobre la donación en 1890 al Museo Arqueológico Nacional por parte de la viuda de Cecilio de Lora de un conjunto de piezas taínas, se hicieron más bien especulaciones o entelequias que desviaron la atención hacia un foco inexistente. En este artículo identificamos las piezas que formaron parte de esta donación, así como su origen, y destejemos la fantasiosa historia que se había entretejido a su alrededor para darle el sentido que realmente tuvieron

    In the absence of direct evidences that proves the origin of some museum collections, it is common to use the deductive method to raise hypotheses that allow the identification or understanding of their contexts. In some cases, as in the interpretations made about the donation in 1890 of a set of Taíno pieces, by Cecilio de Lora’s widow to the Museo Arqueológico Nacional, were made rather speculations or entelechies that diverted attention to a nonexistent focus. In this article we identify the pieces that were part of this donation, as well as their origin, and we unravel the fanciful history that had been woven around it to give it the meaning they really had
