Ever since Botho Strauß’ essay Anschwellender Bocksgesang (1993), contemporary literary texts and authors in Germany have been repeatedly valued as “right-wing”. Due to an ongoing shift of the political landscape, leading to changes in the meaning of right or left, this article suggests analyzing the social and discursive conditions which constitute the political evaluation of literature.
