Ensayo que reflexiona sobre algunos argumentos del historiador venezolano Mariano Picón Salas relativos a la cultura barroca de Hispanoamérica, en particular a sus manifestaciones sociales y a sus creaciones artísticas. Se hace hincapié en el punto de confluencia del carácter híbrido o mezclado, tanto del llamado “estilo o espíritu barroco”, como de las propias sociedades iberoamericanas.

In this essay, the author explores some of the arguments of Venezuelan historian Mariano Picón Salas regarding the Hispanic American baroque culture, especially its socials manifestations and artistic creations. The author stresses the hybrid or mixed character of the so called “baroque style or spirit” as well as the Latin American societies themselves.
