Resumen de Las encíclicas Laudato si’ y Fratelli tutti: retos para el ámbito universitario

This article addresses the encyclicals Laudato Si’ and Fratelli Tutti of Pope Francis as relevant messages for education in general and for university institutions. In the first place, the complementarity of these ecclesial documents is described since the care of the common home (Laudato Si') cannot be separated from the care of human relationships (Fratelli Tutti). This complementarity is shown in three aspects: 1) The two encyclicals are presented as open messages to the world that invite dialogue; 2) The documents present a critique of “the throwaway culture”; 3) They emphasize the importance of working for the common good and the dignity of human beings. In a second place, the potential of encyclicals for the educational field will be evidenced. Finally, the challenges applicable to the university level are approached from their substantive functions of teaching, research and community engagement.

Este artículo aborda las encíclicas Laudato si’ y Fratelli tutti del Papa Francisco como mensajes pertinentes para el ámbito educativo en general y las instituciones universitarias en particular. En primer lugar, se muestra la complementariedad de ambos documentos eclesiales ya que el cuidado de la casa común (Laudato si’) no puede estar desligado del cuidado de las relaciones humanas (Fratelli tutti). Esta complementariedad se muestra en tres aspectos: 1) Las encíclicas se presentan como mensajes abiertos al mundo que invitan al diálogo; 2) Los documentos presentan una crítica a la “cultura del descarte”; 3) Enfatizan la importancia de trabajar por el bien común y la dignidad de la persona humana. En segundo lugar, se evidencia el potencial de las encíclicas para el ámbito educativo en general. Finalmente, se abordarán los retos aplicables al ámbito universitario desde sus funciones sustantivas de la docencia, investigación y vinculación con la sociedad.
