  • Part of a special section on 19th-century sculpture. The study of British 19th-century sculpture has experienced several new developments over the past ten years, all of which began with two notable publications: Victorian Sculpture (1982), by Benedict Read, and The New Sculpture (1983), by Susan Beattie. One of the leading institutions in the study of 19th-century British sculpture is the Henry Moore Centre for the Study of Sculpture in Leeds, England. The writer goes on to discuss numerous publications and studies, as well as the work of various institutions.
