Resumen de Actualización del Inventario de Espacios de Interés Geológico de Catalunya

Veinte años después de su elaboración el Inventario de Lugares de Interés Geológico de Catalunya requiere de una profunda revisión. El avance en las herramientas SIG, la información geológica disponible, las metodologías de elaboración, el marco legal y los nuevos retos reclaman ser incorporados en gestión del patrimonio geológico catalán.
La Estrategia del Patrimonio Natural y la Biodiversidad de Catalunya 2030, aprobada en 2018, considera prioritaria la identi- ficación y el diagnóstico del patrimonio natural, y de manera explícita se refiere a la actualización del IEIGC y a la aprobación de un marco legal para la conservación del patrimonio geológico.
La colaboración entre la Dirección General de Políticas Ambientales del Departamento de Territorio y Sostenibilidad y el Instituto Cartográfico y Geológico de Catalunya se ha marcado como objetivo no sólo la actualización del IEIGC con la incorporación de nuevos espacios de interés y la revisión de la valoración de estos siguiendo metodologías de referencia, sino también crear la base de datos asociada dando cumplimento a la Directiva INSPIRE.

The Catalan Geoheritage Inventory (IEIGC) was done between 1997 and 1999. Twenty years after it requires a deep review. Since GIS applications are widely used and a continuous geological map at a resolution equivalent scale 1:50 000 is available new geological sites delimitation needs to be performed following geological criteria. Furthermore, there are new candidates to be included in the IEIGC.
The Natural Heritage and Biodiversity Strategy of Catalonia 2030, approved in 2018, considers the identification and diag- nosis of natural heritage as a priority, and explicitly, refers to update the IEIGC and to establish a new legal framework for the conservation of its geoheritage.
The collaboration between the Direcció General de Polítiques Ambientals i Medi Natural (Ministry of Territory and Sustai- nability) and the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia started in 2019. The goal to be achieved is not only to update the IEIGC, but also to create a database in compliance with the INSPIRE European Directive.
