Características ideales de los docentes clínicos de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Chile: Visión de los estudiantes y docentes

    Introducción: Se postularon y analizaron características deseables que pudiere tener un docente clínico de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Chile (FOUCH), desde la perspectiva de los estudiantes de 4° y 5° pertenecientes al currículo no innovado de la Escuela Dental de Pre Grado y los profesores que laboraban en las clínicas correspondientes.

    Objetivos: El objetivo del presente trabajo es determinar las características que debe poseer un docente clínico de la Escuela de pre título de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Chile desde la visión de los estudiantes y de los académicos.

    Material y Método: Se diseñó y aplicó un cuestionario tipo Likert que fue respondido en entrevista personal por los participantes de los dos grupos en estudio. Dicho cuestionario presenta cinco niveles de respuesta (1 a 5) y cuatro categorías: Enseñanza-aprendizaje de los docentes clínicos; Evaluación de los aprendizajes; Relaciones interpersonales con los estudiantes; y las Referidas a la constante actualización y el desarrollo del académico de un docente clínico conducente a un título y/o grado.

    Resultados: Al aplicar las pruebas de significación para comparar las respuestas obtenidas de docentes y estudiantes, se comprobó que no existe diferencia significativa entre ambos grupos en estudio en las cuatro categorías en que se clasifican las características deseables.

    Conclusiones: Se obtienen las opiniones de docentes y estudiantes de la Escuela Dental de la FOUCH, desde las cuales se puede generar un perfil que debe tener un docente clínico de esta escuela. Para los docentes, lo más importante es que “Debe poseer competencias teóricas y clínicas de su disciplina” y “Agrado por su labor docente”. Para los estudiantes, en cambio, lo más importante que debe tener un docente es la “Puntualidad”. Estudiantes y docentes restan importancia a los estudios de especialidad del docente clínico y a los grados académicos que pueda tener (magister, doctor).

    Introduction: Desirable characteristics that a clinical teacher of the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Chile (FOUCH) may have were postulated and analyzed from the perspective of 4th and 5th grade students belonging to the non-innovated curriculum of the Pre-Degree Dental School and the professors who worked in the corresponding clinics.

    Objectives: The objective of this work is to determine the characteristics that a clinical teacher of the Pre-degree Dental School of the Faculty of Dentistry of Universidad de Chile should have from the perspective of students and academics.

    Material and Method: A Likert-type questionnaire was designed and applied, answered in a personal interview by the participants of the two groups under study. This questionnaire presents five response levels (1 to 5) and four categories: Teaching/learning of clinical teachers; Assessment of learning; Interpersonal relationships with students; and those Referring to the constant updating and academic development of a clinical teacher leading to a professional title and/or degree.

    Results: When applying the significance tests to compare the responses obtained from teachers and students, it was found that there is no significant difference between both groups in studies in the four categories in which the desirable characteristics are classified.

    Conclusions: The opinions of teachers and students of the FOUCH Dental School are obtained, from which it is possible to generate a profile that a clinical at this school should have. For teachers, the most important thing is that "He/she must have theoretical and clinical competencies in his/her discipline" and "Pleasure in his/her teaching work". For students, on the other hand, the most important thing that a teacher should have is "Punctuality". Students and teachers downplay the importance of the clinical teacher's specialty studies and the academic degrees they may have (master's degree, doctorate).
