En su poesía Enrique de Rivas apenas incluye el drama del exilio; declara, incluso, su falta de nostalgia por una patria real. Pero es una estrategia de defensa para evitar que el sentimiento de pérdida y sus crecientes inquietudes existenciales le impidan disfrutar el presente y contemplar la Belleza que lo rodea. Para recibir lo que él llama «el don de la redención» se refugia en la luz, en sí mismo, en la palabra, y en Roma, la «Ciudad Eterna», donde el tiempo parece haberse detenido y las voces ancestrales del pasado llenan el presente y se proyectan hacia el futuro.

In his poetry Enrique de Rivas barely includes the drama of exile; he even declares his lack of nostalgia for a real homeland. But it is a defense strategy so that the feeling of loss and his growing existential concerns will not prevent him from enjoying the present and contemplating the Beauty that surrounds him. To receive what he calls «the gift of redemption» he takes refuge in the light, in himself, in poetry, and in Rome, the «Eternal City», where time seems to have stood still and the ancient voices from the past fill the present and project into the future.
