El presente trabajo trata sobre un testimonio de primera mano que nos ilustra sobre las vicisitudes que sufrió la llamada Isla Gaditana (Cádiz y su entorno inmediato) durante el asedio a la que fue sometida, en el verano de 1823, por parte de las tropas invasoras del Duque de Angulema. Nos referimos al Diario de Operaciones escrito por el Teniente Coronel Manuel Bayo, del arma de Ingenieros, en el que pormenorizadamente vierte sus anotaciones desde el punto de vista de la estrategia de defensa de las principales fortificaciones que hicieron frente al enemigo. De especial relevancia son las dedicadas a la posición del Trocadero, su tenaz defensa y posterior caída, que tanto influyó negativamente en la causa constitucional española suponiendo el final del Trienio Liberal (1820-1823)

The present work deals with a first-hand testimony that illustrates us about the vicissitudes that the so-called Gaditana Island (Cádiz and its immediate surroundings) suffered during the siege to which it was subjected, in the summer of 1823, by the invading troops. of the Duke of Angoulême. We are referring to the Operations Diary written by Lieutenant Colonel Manuel Bayo, of the Corps of Engineers, in which he detailed his annotations from the point of view of the defense strategy of the main fortifications that faced the enemy. Of special relevance are those dedicated to the Trocadero fort, its tenacious defense and subsequent fall, which had such a negative influence on the Spanish constitutional cause, assuming the end of the Liberal Triennium (1820-1823).
