La incertidumbre como antídoto para las desconfianzas e irresponsabilidades patológicas propias de nuestra era digital

    La era digital facilita un rápido acceso a muchos datos que a menudo están escasamente acreditados y muchas veces han sido diseñados para desinformar o negar evidencias molestas para determinados intereses. El constante y continuo uso de dispositivos tecnológicos que reportan una satisfacción instantánea, nos imbuye de cierta de prepotencia, como si pudiéramos colmar todos nuestros anhelos deslizando nuestro dedo por una pantalla. Esta pertinaz inmersión en la realidad virtual desdibuja los hechos reales, de cuya veracidad llegamos a desconfiar, al preferir las certidumbres dogmáticas e incontestables que nos brindan los bulos y lo que se ha dado en llamar “hechos alternativos”. Habitar esta realidad paralela nos hace desentendernos de nuestra responsabilidad para con los demás. Por eso hay que reivindicar el cultivo de la filosofía y la reflexión ética como antídotos de las piedras filosofales que nos ofrecen quienes consiguen hacerse pasar por taumaturgos cuya tutela resolverá todos nuestros problemas. Como queremos certezas perennes e instantáneas, desconfiamos de todos y de todo. Al igual que la incertidumbre, otro de nuestros rasgos más humanos es justamente la confianza y asimismo la responsabilidad. Sin ellos nos deshumanizamos.

    The digital era provides quick access to a lot of data that is often poorly substantiated and frequently designed to disinform or deny evidence that is inconvenient to certain interests. The constant and continuous use of technological devices that provide instant gratification imbues us with a certain arrogance, as if we could fulfill all our desires by sliding our finger across a screen. This relentless immersion in virtual reality blurs the real facts, the veracity of which we come to distrust, preferring the dogmatic and incontestable certainties provided by hoaxes and so-called “alternative facts”. Inhabiting this parallel reality makes us disregard our responsibility towards others. That is why we must vindicate the cultivation of philosophy and ethical reflection as antidotes to the philosopher’s stones offered to us by those who pretend to be soothsayers whose guidance will solve all our problems. As we want perennial and instant certainties, we distrust everyone and everything. Like uncertainty, other of our most human traits are precisely trust and responsibility. Without them we become dehumanized.
