  • Resumen
    • The achievement of food security is becoming more pressing and harder than ever. Yet, the traditional narrative claiming that this goal can be achieved only through agricultural intensification - and, hence, increased exploitation of land - is falling short of this objective, especially when looking at the ensuing social and environmental costs. The development of an alternative narrative able to reconcile agricultural production and environmental sustainability concerns for the achievement of food security, however, is impaired by the lack of a comprehensive legal framework for the protection of land. In the absence o such an ad hoc legal regime, the full realization of food security requires the development of an integrated approach to land use, aimed at bridging the gap between the predominant view on land as an instrument for agricultural exploitation and the emerging environmental sustainability concerns.
