La enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica es la tercera causa de muerte a nivel mundial, posterior a cardiopatías y cáncer. Se trata de una enfermedad respiratoria crónica con restricción al flujo de aire, prevenible y tratable. Secundario a agentes nocivos respiratorios siendo el principal factor de riesgo el consumo de tabaco. El tratamiento busca mejorar la calidad de vida de los pacientes, prevenir exacerbaciones y disminuir la mortalidad, en el presente artículo nos basamos en la guía española de la EPOC. El objetivo de este artículo es ampliar el conocimiento de esta patología, para poder aportar al paciente un tratamiento adecuado, y prevenir las complicaciones y progresión de la enfermedad.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is the third leading cause of death worldwide, after heart disease and cancer. It is a chronic respiratory disease with airflow restriction, preventable and treatable. Secondary to harmful respiratory agents, the main risk factor being tobacco use. The treatment seeks to improve the quality of life of patients, prevent exacerbations and reduce mortality, in this article we are based on the Spanish COPD guide. The objective of this article is to broaden the knowledge of this pathology, in order to provide the patient with adequate treatment, and prevent complications and progression of the disease.
