La obra marítima no ha sido una excepción en el olvido estético que se ha venido aplicando a los proyectos de la mayoría de las obras civiles en España y en el resto del mundo. Hay que reconocer que tampoco sus condiciones son las más favorables para la aplicación de entenas tendentes a mejorar su percepción visual; el acceso a su contemplación es, a menudo, restringido, la mayor parte de sus obras de infraestructura queda oculta bajo el agua, su visión es preterida frente a la de los espacios y horizontes que las rodean y, finalmente, en muchos casos su carácter plano y bidimensional queda asfixiado ante los elementos de gran alzado que las colonizan. Aun bajo estas limitaciones. el diseño en planta de los principales elementos portuarios - diques. muelles. dársenas y explanadas-, tanto de forma individual como global. constituye un objeto de gran valor estético que debe ser tenido en cuenta y que confiere carácter a las realizaciones.

Mantime works have been no except1on in the aesthetic neglect that has been appl1ed to most civil works projects in Spain and in the rest of the world. lt is fair to note that their conditions certainly are not the most encouraging for the application of criteria aimed at improving their visual perception; access to their contemplation is often restricted, most of their engineering structures are concealed under water, their view is ignored because of the spaces and horizons surrounding them and, finally, their flat and two-dimensional design is often engulfed by the high-rise elements that colornze thern. However, even with these limitations, the layout of the main port elements, such as dikes, quays, cocks and esplanades, both individually and globally, constitutes an object of a great aesthetic value that must be taken into account and that confers character to cornpleted works.
