    Este artículo es un análisis sintético de la historia de ETA desde su nacimiento en julio de 1959 a su final en octubre de 2011. Se atiende al contexto histórico en el que se creó esta organización terrorista, a sus acciones, a su impacto sobre la sociedad y a sus estrategias políticas y de acción (espiral-acción-reacción, socialización del sufrimiento, impacto mediático, etc.). También se profundiza en las respuestas implementadas por los diferentes Gobiernos de España, incluyendo tanto las mejoras tácticas policiales como la estrategia ilegítima del terrorismo vigilante de los GAL. De igual modo, se alude alas asociaciones y colectivos pacifistas cuya labor contribuyó a reducir el apoyo social al terrorismo. Por último, se concede una especial relevancia a las víctimas de las acciones terroristas, subrayando el significado de todas ellas, pese a que no estén todas reflejadas por motivos de espacio.

    This paper is a synthetic analysis of the history of ETA from its start in July 1959 to its end in October 2011. It pays attention to the historical context in which this terrorist organization was created, its actions, its impact on the society and in its political and action strategies (spiral-action-reaction, popularization of suffering, media impact, etc.).

    It also delves into the responses carried out by the different Governments of Spain, including both the progresses of Police tactics and the illegitimate strategy of vigilante terrorism of GAL. In the same way, it refers to pacifist associations and groups whose work contributed to reducing social support for terrorism. Finally, special relevance is given to the victims of terrorist actions, underlining the meaning of all of them, even though they are not all reflected for reasons of space.
