    El objeto de estudio del presente trabajo es la experiencia demigración y su significado para un grupo de científicos mexicanosque participan en la construcción de un circuito de migraciónentre México y los EE. UU. en el campo de las cienciasagrícolas. Defino a este circuito de migración científica como unhecho histórico, social y cultural, y para abordarlo me apoyo enla perspectiva transnacional de la migración. Desde esta visiónentiendo al circuito de migración científica como un campo derelaciones sociales extendido entre México y los EE. UU. Paraestudiar esta experiencia y su significado recurro a la reconstrucciónhistórica del circuito de migración científica entre ambospaíses, a la observación participante, a las pláticas informales y ala recopilación y análisis de testimonios. Enfoqué tres momentoscruciales de la experiencia de los migrantes: la que se da antesdel viaje a los EE. UU., la que se produce en la estancia en unauniversidad norteamericana, y la que se genera al retornar a uncentro de investigación en México. Asimismo, se analizan tresfactores importantes que determinan y hacen que la experienciay su significado sean diferentes: el género, la carrera académicay la adscripción al circuito.

    The object of this study is the migratory experience and its meaningfor a group of Mexican scientists who participate in theconstruction of a migration circuit between México and the USAin the field of agricultural sciences. I define this circuit of scientificmigration as a historical, social and cultural fact, and in order toapproach it, I base myself on the transnational perspective ofmigration. From this point of view, I understand the scientificmigration circuit as a field of social relations that extends betweenMéxico and the USA. In order to study this experience and itsmeaning, I turn to the historical reconstruction of the scientificmigration circuit between both countries, to participantobservation, to informal talks and to the collection and analysisof testimonies. I focused on three crucial moments of the migrants’experience: the one before traveling to the USA, the one producedduring their stay in a North American university, and thatgenerated upon returning to a research center in México. Likewise,three important factors which determine and make the experienceand its meaning different are analyzed: gender, academic career,and attachment to the circuit.
